Siemens has introduced the “COMOS Mobile Worker,” a mobile application designed to enhance the efficiency and safety of process plant maintenance teams.

Developed in collaboration with Augmensys GmbH, a specialist in mobile data management and augmented reality (AR), this app integrates AR functionalities to provide real-time access to critical data from various sources, including engineering databases, ERP systems, and live process control systems.

The COMOS Mobile Worker app offers a user-friendly interface that visualizes and processes essential information, facilitating swift and secure maintenance operations. By connecting directly with the COMOS engineering software, it ensures consistent data management and a comprehensive view of the plant. Users can edit data on-site, document completed tasks, and upload photos and notes, which are then accessible to all authorized personnel through a bidirectional interface. This capability reduces unplanned downtimes and enhances overall operational reliability.

A notable feature of the app is its integration of location data, which supports on-site navigation. When necessary, AR displays relevant information on mobile devices such as tablets, smartphones, or smart glasses, allowing maintenance teams to quickly locate and address field devices. This integration streamlines maintenance processes, reduces costs, and improves productivity.

The COMOS Mobile Worker app is part of Siemens’ “Digital Worker” concept, aiming to digitize and automate fieldwork using advanced technologies like AR and virtual reality. It can be used in various scenarios, including commissioning, inspection, mobile maintenance, and remote expert access. Notably, a continuous Ethernet connection is not required, as the app’s offline functionality allows data to be synchronized retrospectively.

In December 2024, Siemens expanded the app’s capabilities by integrating the Roboverse Reply Platform. This enhancement enables the scheduling of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and drones from different manufacturers for inspection and maintenance tasks. The integration allows for early detection of anomalies using artificial intelligence, with critical information communicated to operators in real-time. This high level of automation helps companies identify and correct faults earlier, avoiding costly downtime.
